Attendance

Attendance at Longshaw

Making sure your child comes to school – every day and on time – will give them the best possible start to their education. Establishing good patterns of attendance and punctuality now will help your child as they progress throughout their time at school, both here at Longshaw Infants and in the future.

The Department for Education tracks attendance carefully and our aim is to have a whole school attendance figure in excess of the national average of 96.7%.

Our whole school attendance figure from the last academic year was 92.1% so an improvement is required!

We categorise attendance as seen in the table below.

The figures show the amount of children in each category throughout Autumn 1.

Green

Above 96% Attendance

Achieving the expected level of attendance

106 pupils – 46% of our children are on Green level.

Amber

Between 92% and 96% Attendance

Achieving below the expected level of attendance

31 pupils – 13% of our children are on Amber level.

Red

Below 92% Attendance

Achieving significantly below the expected level of attendance

94 pupils – 41% of our children are on Red level.

Punctuality

As well as Attending daily, we also expect our children to arrive on time! We have all experienced that feeling of dread when you arrive somewhere late, try to sneak in at the back and have all eyes in the room turn and stare at you.

The reason we aim for good punctuality is because it can lead to your child…

  • Walking into a quiet, settled classroom of peers and feeling embarrassed
  • Always missing the start of a vital lesson, meaning they fall behind
  • Missing important announcements and instructions about the rest of the school day
  • Learning bad habits, which could affect their employability in the future

We do understand that occasionally things occur in a morning making this not possible, however, we ask that you do please keep us informed and get your children into school as soon as possible.
