Intent

At Longshaw Infant School, we truly believe that every child can succeed, and we're passionate about helping them do just that. Our curriculum is broad, balanced and carefully planned to build knowledge and skills step by step – but we also know that every child is unique. That’s why our staff are always ready to adapt, sometimes going back to earlier plans if it helps a child feel more confident or secure in their learning. We care deeply about the whole child – not just what they know, but how they think, feel, move, and grow. We work hard to help children understand how to learn, not just what to learn, and how to apply what they’ve learned in different ways. Our teaching is guided by the Principles of Assessment for Learning, which means we’re always keeping a close eye on progress – for individuals, groups, classes, and whole year groups – so no one is left behind. We also believe in giving children a rich variety of experiences, including the chance to enjoy both traditional and new sports, helping them discover new interests and develop important life skills along the way.
