Music at Longshaw
Intent
At Longshaw Infant School, we believe every child should experience the joy and creativity that music brings. Using Sing Up Music, we deliver fun, practical, and engaging lessons that help children grow in confidence, develop musical skills, and express themselves. Music is an integral part of life at Longshaw. We want our children to enjoy it in all it’s forms including singing, moving, listening, creating and performing. Our curriculum starts in the Early Years and progresses as the children move through school. We aim to ensure that every child leaves Longshaw Infants School with an awareness of different musical styles, cultures, and traditions so that they can continue thrive musically.

- informal judgements by staff during lessons
- immediate next steps provided via verbal feedback
- pupil and peer assessments
- Sonar assessments
Music is assessed throughout the year, ensuring that teachers have a clear understanding of children's strengths and next steps in learning.
