Maths At Longshaw

Intent

The teaching of Maths at Longshaw will enable pupils to gain an understanding of the importance of Maths in everyday life and the wider world.  It will develop their confidence of using maths and promote their understanding of how Maths relates to many aspects of life.

Pupils will be encouraged to think mathematically and will be introduced to new concepts using the Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract (CPA) approach. Real life contexts will be used to help children to develop skills they can use in their everyday lives. It helps develop the meaning of Maths and encourage them to have fun with Maths.

Pupils will be able to apply fluency, reasoning and problem solving to increasingly complex problems.

Implementation

Impact

Maths at Longshaw Infant School is assessed using the following;

  •  informal judgements by staff during lessons
  • immediate next steps provided via verbal feedback
  • pupil and peer assessments
  • Sonar and White Rose Maths assessments

Maths is assessed throughout the year, ensuring that they have a clear understanding of children's next steps and gaps in learning.
