Geography at Longshaw
Intent
The teaching of Geography at Longshaw will fire children’s curiosity about the world and where they are within it. They will learn to understand their local environment and cultures by visiting significant places in the local area. They will learn to recognise that human and physical features are unique to a place, country or continent and what makes their local area unique. They will confidently learn to access tools, such as atlases, google earth, maps etc. to explore and investigate the world and identify how they can improve or protect it. Children will learn how to view themselves as global citizens of a unique planet and how they can make a difference to it.

Geography at Longshaw Infant School is assessed using the following;
- informal judgements by staff during lessons
- immediate next steps provided via verbal feedback
- pupil and peer assessments
- Sonar assessments
History is assessed throughout the year, ensuring that they have a clear understanding of children's next steps and gaps in learning.
